I haven't be able to find an article by Dr Curry but I found the story told by Dr Alexander Marcet in the Medico Chirurgical Transactions of 1822.
The plate was not included but you can see it in a more recent article by Jonathan Charles Goddard: A seaman's wager, Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, July 2003, vol 96, p 359-360.
