This forum is devoted to the Royal Navy during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1793 - 1815).
And why not the other navies of the period?

The Director of the National Museum of the RN was much better than last year, and had some ideas.
Good news is that the 20th/21st century gallery for the museum has lottery money & is on way to matching funds. For those outside UK I should explain that when a lottery grant is 'made' that is far from the end of the story as no money is actually handed out until the organisation in question has raised a sum at least equal to the 'grant'.
The CO of Victory was notably nervous, perhaps unsettled by the fact that the former curator walked out as he stood up.
VICTORY is not looking well at the moment with rot exposed on the port bow area & her figurehead removed. Indeed she will get worse before she gets better as all the masts will be coming out over the next few years (including the lowers).
I was not convinced by the new working arrangements with the Museum (who now control the Victory guides and the curator - when they get one) which I fear will lead to serious friction in the future.
The news about UNICORN in Dundee was not upbeat as the local council have no interest in her except preventing here from from moving to anywhere that might look after her (like Chatham).
The same goes for CAROLINE and the Belfast council.
One other piece of bad news is it was reported that the Science Museum in London is about to put its entire ship model collection into store (apparently ship models are not fashionable).
So if you want to see this excellent set of models one last time you had better get there before September.
