If you where a member of the jury who had to try Cochrane for the Stock Exchange scam, would you find him "guilty as charged"?

It is said that Cochrane was involved in many shady deals; I am not so sure on this one though.

I think I would have have found him guilty, because I would probably have been chosen for being anti- Cochrane.

I like Cochrane: what "panache" and his autobiography was very good PR.
A case of "born too late".

But I think I would have voted guilty: all the scam was so much in line with his personality: he was a maverick.
Problem is that by modern standards there was no direct proof.

After reading Napoleon is Dead by Richard Dale, I am definetly convinced that he was involved in the plot.
With his usual sense of humour he probably took it as a good joke to do with money as the cherry on top.

What they didn't think was the fact that the Stock Exchange would take the joke seriously and that all the plot will end before the King's Bench.

Having been taken with his hand in the cookie jar, Cochrane spent the rest of his life trying to proof that he was innocent and that he had been framed by his political enemies, and he succeeded: most of his biographers give him innocent (they mostly based their works on his autobiography that has to be read vry carefully and with a very critic mind).
