Can someone please tell me how many 3rd rate 64 gun ships of the line the British and French had in commission in the years 1794-1814?

While Napoleon was in power in France did the French Navy ever attempt an attack on the British channel coast?

Thanks,

James

If you use the search facility here you should be able to work it out.

http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=ships_search

the UK had around 40 64's in 1793 (of course not all of them in commission)

All the Trafalgar campaign was about the Napoleon's attempt at British invasion and so was the Boulogne flotilla.

According to Winfield "British Warships in the Age of Sail 1793-1817" there were 43 British 64's in 1793, 2 in commission (Lion and St Albans), 28 in ordinary and 13 in harbour service.

During the wars the British built no (0) 64's, bought 5 from the East India Company and captured several from the Dutch (14), French (2) and Danish (4)

I meant to say, did the French ever attempt a raid, much like the one the Dutch carried out in early June 1667, while Napoleon was in power.

To my knowledge the only invasions of the period were the Hoche's expedition in December 1796, and the "invasion" of 1797 in Fishguard, both failures.

But it was before the Napoleon's times.

His project of invasion in the 1800s can be regarded as a failure or a success depending of the point of view.
