  • 1781 Capt. Charles INGLIS, appointed at the beginning of the year and in the Spring accompanied Vice Adm. DARBY on an expedition to relieve Gibraltar.
  • At the end of the year he was ordered to take a convoy to the West Indies, where he joined Sir Samuel HOOD. On the 25th. of January 1781 he was appointed to lead the fleet in the skirmish with the Comte de Grasse off Basse-Terre.
