BIDEFORD (24) Built in 1740, Ipswich.
Broken up in 1754.

  • 1740 Capt. Robert ALLEN, appointed on May 8th. after being a lieutenant for over thirty years. He removed to the ROCHESTER the following July.
  • 1742 Capt. Hon. George DAWNEY, appointed 8th. January.
    On 26 June he captured the Spanish privateer St. ANTONIO of Bilboa with 14 carriage, 10 swivel guns and 96 men. Early in 1743 Capt. DAWNEY removed to LYNNE (24).
  • 1743 Capt. Charles POWLET.
    On 10 October he was promoted to command BIDEFORD and he continued in her until the beginning of 1748, at which time she was on the Jamaica station under Commodore DENT.
