  • 1778 Capt. PRINGLE, accompanied by the CERES sloop, Capt. DACRES, being on a cruise off the Bahamas, gave chase to two American frigates. At noon they came up with one of them, which struck after a short resistance. She proved to be the ALFRED, of 20 guns and 180 men. Her consort was the RALEIGH, which escaped.
