  • 1759 Capt. Challoner OGLE. Downs and North Sea. In 1761 he was employed as a cruiser and in January he captured and carried into Cork the SANTA THERESA, privateer, with 10 carriage guns. In February he carried into Lisbon the privateer COMPTE de GRAMMONT from Bayonne, mounting 20 guns and carrying a crew of 117 picked men. On his passage back to England on 4 March he captured another privateer called the ZEPHIRE of 12 guns and 114 men. In April she was one of the three frigates sent with Capt. Matthew BUCKLE's squadron to cruise off Brest to prevent interference with the attack on Belleisle. In July he captured a privateer from Rochelle called the AURORA of 10 guns and 75 men and on 7 August, some 150 leagues to the westward of Cape Finisterre, he captured the SUBTILE, of 15 guns and 84 men, described officially as a frigate of the French East India Company, homeward bound from Mauritius with dispatches and cargo.
  • 1762 A French squadron escaped from Brest and sailed for the West Indies when Comm. SPRY who had been blockading the port, had been driven off station. SPRY at once detached AQUILON with the news to warn RODNEY but the French had already been sighted off Martinique before Capt. OGLE arrived. He was, however, able to give RODNEY accurate details of the French strength.
