VIRAGO (12) Gun-brig Built in 1805, Dartmouth.
Sold in 1816.

  • 1805 Lieut. Anderson, Dartmouth.
  • 1807 Lieut. HANCHET, Irish station.
Returning from station to the North Sea in thick weather she ran on to the Goodwin Sands about half a mile from South Sands Head on 25 February 1807.
Her signal guns were heard ashore and four boats from Deal put out to her, as did Lieut. M'CREEDIE in the SPECULATOR lugger.
The sea was running very high and breaking over VIRAGO and the beating on the sands un-shipped her rudder and started the sternpost but the boats managed to get the gunbrig off and take her to Ramsgate Harbour for repairs.
  • 1811 Lieut. W. R.A.
    PETTMAN, to West Indies.
  • 1812 Ditto, Cork.
  • 1814 Ditto, Irish Station.
  • 1815 Lieut. John Mitchell, Irish Station.
  • 1816 Ditto, Deptford.
