- 1811-14 Lieut. Edward A. D'ARCY, Downs.
On the morning of 21 September 1811 VIPER, CASTILLIAN and REDPOLE, joined an hour and a half later by the frigate NAIAD, formed in line some six miles off Boulogne to await an attack by the French flotilla which consisted of 7 praams together with some brigs and 1-gun luggers. The French were chased back into shoal water losing one praam, VILLE DE LYON to NAIAD. The previous day Napoleon had visited the flotilla.
