    Because of the peace of Amiens the ship was paid off at Chatham soon after he commissioned her.

    On the renewal of the war with France Capt. BYNG was still convalescent from ill health occasioned by long cruises of the Irish coast during the previous winter.
    He was appointed senior officer of the block-ships in the Medway.
  • On 18 March 1802 a court martial held on board GLADIATOR sentenced Joseph Ashby, a marine belonging to TEXEL, to receive 200 lashes for desertion.
  • On the retirement of Earl ST. VINCENT from the Admiralty in 1804 he promoted Capt. BYNG's first Lieutenant and two master's mates to superior ranks.
    The captain was appointed to MALABAR in August 1804.
  • 1805 Capt. Donald CAMPBELL (Rear Ad. James VASHOU) floating battery in the Leith Roads.
  • 1808 Sheerness.
