PORPOISE (12) Storeship Purchased in 1804, ex LORD MELVILLE.
Sold in 1816.

  • With Capt. William BLIGH and Joseph SHORT (act.) she sailed for New South Wales on 28 January 1806 and arrived in Sydney Harbour on 6 August to act as the principal naval defence there.
    Capt. BLIGH took up the office of Governor.

  • On 29 February 1809 Capt. BLIGH boarded PORPOISE after being held under house arrest for over a year following a revolt by the New South Wales Corps.
    For a little while he blockaded the port with the idea of capturing the ADMIRAL GAMBIER but changed his mind and sailed for Hobart.
    Col. Macquarie of the 73rd. regiment, the new Governor, arrived in Sydney with HINDOSTAN and DROMEDARY on 28 December 1809 and soon restored order.
    PORPOISE, with Capt. BLIGH returned on 17 January 1810 and all three ships returned to England in May.
  • 1811 Out of commission at Woolwich.
