PLUMPER Gun-brig Built in 1804, Deptford.
Taken in 1805.

  • 1805 Lieut. James Henry GARRETY.
On 15 July 1805 PLUMPER was cruising off Granville with TEAZER when they both became becalmed near the Isle of Chausey and had to anchor.
They were too far apart to support each other when seven French gun vessels came up after dark and opened fire with long 24pdrs.
The British gun-brigs, armed with 18pdr carronades, were outranged and were forced to surrender after an hour.
GARRETY lost an arm during the action.
