  • Henry INGESTRIE, 10/1826, At the Battle of Navarino PHILOMEL, ROSE, WASP and MUSQUITO were stationed with the frigate DARTMOUTH to watch the movements of the Turkish fireships at the entrance to the harbour.
    When the action became general one of the fireships was sunk by a well directed broadside from PHILOMEL which lost 1 killed and 3 wounded in the battle and brought home the despatches announcing the defeat of the Turco-Egyptian fleet.

  • 1831 William SMITH, 04/1831, Gibraltar.
    On 4 March 1832 Mate Joshua HUTCHINSON was wounded by two musket balls passing through his left hand and arm as he was boarding a smuggler from one of PHILOMEL's boats off Gibraltar.
    (He was promoted in February 1833 for this action) Paid off 16 September 1833.
