MORNE FORTUNEE (6) Schooner A French privateer schooner taken in 1803 and purchased in 1804.
Lost in 1804.

  • 1804 Lieut. John DALE.
On the evening of 22 September 1804 dispatches came down to Plymouth from the Admiralty and were immediately put on board MORNE FORTUNEE. When she sailed at 7 PM for Jamaica and the Leeward Is, the hurry of her sailing prompted speculation that they were of importance. She was in fact carrying news of hostilities with Spain, arrived in Barbados on 22 October and went on to give Jamaica the news on the 30th.
  • In December 1804 she was wrecked on Atwood Cay (Samana Cay) to the north east of Crooked Island in the Bahamas. The officers and crew were rescued by the boat's crews from PENGUIN.
