Sold in 1760.

  • 1757 Admiral John BYNG was shot on board MONARCH in Portsmouth harbour at noon on 14 March.
    His monument at Southill, Bedfordshire has: "To the Perpetual Disgrace of Public Justice, the Hon. John Byng, Esq., Admiral of the Blue, fell a Martyr to Political Persecution, March 14th., in the year MDCCLVII; when Bravery and Loyalty were insufficient Securities for the Life and Honour of a Naval Officer."
  • 1758 Capt. John MONTAGU, with Ad. Henry OSBORN in the Mediterranean.
    While chasing 4 strange sail near Cape de Gato MONARCH and MONTAGU succeeded in driving the French ORIFLAMME (50), ashore.
