  • 1767 Capt. DEAN, Halifax. On 12th. January it was found that a scuttle in the chamber floor of the capstan house had been knocked open, two bales of slops had been opened and some were missing. The seamen of GLASGOW or the marines of MERMAID, who were on guard, were suspected. A search warrant was issued and and a shirt was found with a soldier of the 29th. regiment who bought it from Michael Geary, Sergeant of Marines in the MERMAID.
