MAYFLOWER
Privateer of London. |
- During a hurricane on 25 December 1803 a Batavian East-Indiaman was sighted by part of Commodore Sir E. PELLEW's squadron but she escaped in the darkness. Two days later the MAYFLOWER privateer captured her as she was steering for a Spanish port and brought her into Plymouth on 12 January and took her up the Hamoaze. She was 600 tons and carried a valuable cargo of silks, cinnamon and pepper valued at 100,000 pounds which was bound for Amsterdam.
