MARIA Privateer
  • 1800 John DOYLE, Guernsey.
On 24 January, to the N. W. of Cape Finisterre, he gave chase to a sail to windward and after six hours captured her. She was the Spanish privateer lugger NOSTRA SENORA CARMEN, commanded by Don Joseph Oliviera and mounting two 9 pounders with a crew of 44 men far inferior to that of MARIA. The prize was taken into Viana and the prisoners handed over to the British consul.
