MADAGASCAR (38) The French LA NEREIDE taken at Tamatave, Madagascar, by ASTREA, PHOEBE, GALATEA and RACEHORSE on 20 May 1811.
Broken up in 1819.

    She undocked in Plymouth in January 1813 after under going a thorough repair. She appears in Steele's List for January 1814 as a new vessel built in 1813 and Clowes' list does not indicate that NEREIDE was taken into the Royal Navy.
  • 1813 Capt. Sir Lucius CURTIS (who commanded MAGICIENNE until she was lost at Mauritius), Channel fleet.
  • 1815 Capt. Bentinck DOYLE, Channel fleet, then America.
  • 1816 Cdr. William Augustus BAUMGART, He was promoted from lieutenant on 28 February 1815 and acted as captain of MADAGASCAR at Sheerness for about two months before commissioning RALEIGH.
