LADY ANN Hired brig No details.
  • 1801 Lieut. John LAKE, North Sea.
On the 16 May after a chase and a running fight lasting 17 hours through the night Lieut. LAKE recaptured his Majesty's hired cutter ACTIVE which had been taken in the Ems during November 1800. She was now known as the VICTOIRE, a privateer operating out of Dunkirk and commanded by Jean Beville. The privateer had made no captures in the six days she had been out but when Lieut. LAKE first sighted her off Flamborough Head she was chasing after a number of loaded vessels. He found his small crew far out-numbered by all his prisoners so he made first for Bridlington where he landed 55 of them, then on to Yarmouth with the prize and 20 others.
