  • 1808 John BAKER, Portsmouth.
    On 20 November 1808, after a two hour chase, Capt. BAKER captured the French lugger privateer EGAYANT (14) ten or twelve miles S. E. of Dungerness. She was brand new and had sailed from Calais the previous morning on her first cruise in which she had taken a foreign galliot in ballast.
  • Rear-Ad. Sir John STRACHAN transferred to KANGAROO to direct operations in the West Scheldt during the ill-fated Walcheren expedition of August 1809 which led up to the capture of Flushing on the 17th.
  • Capt. BAKER was promoted to post captain on 21/10/10, the fifth anniversary of Trafalgar.
