    HECLA arrived in Portsmouth on the 24 September with a fleet under convoy from Hull bound for Portugal and the Mediterranean. She and EXPLOSION were serving with the Havre squadron in 1804, and took part in the bombardment of Havre on 16 and 23 July and 1 August that year.
    His conduct was praised in the official letters from Capt Dudley OLIVER who commanded the operations in MELPOMENE.
    Both times the bombs were well placed off the pier heads and fired large quantities of shells and carcasses into the town and harbour.

    HECLA arrived in Portsmouth from a cruise on 18 December 1804 and sailed again on 2 January 1805 in spite of a thick fog and little wind.
