  • 1806 Lieut. John FOOTE, manned from QUEEN (98).
    He was sent to protect a convoy off Gibraltar on 25 October 1806 and off Cabritta Point he discovered a lateen rigged vessel towing a merchantman towards Spain.
    When he came up with them the enemy proved to be a 3-masted privateer mounting 4 guns, The Spaniard cast off his tow and came along side HANNAH.
    In the hand to hand fighting that followed 6 of HANNAH's crew were killed, 2 drowned and 11 wounded including Lieut. FOOTE, who was wounded in the left arm before he was forced to surrender after 10 minutes.
    Midshipmen SPARGO and MILLET were commended for their part in the action.
