ELIZA (1) Hired tender Hired in 1822.
  • She was hired to act as tender to TYNE off the north coast of Cuba in 1822 and armed with one 12pdr carronade. She was manned by Mate Hugh NURSE and Midshipman George WHITE with a small crew.
    At anchor in Guajara she was attacked on 30 September 1822 by a 6-gun pirate schooner, DIABLETO, and a felucca, FIRME UNION, armed with five guns.
    Nurse fired his only gun and boarded the felucca killing 10 pirates and capturing the vessel.
    Two British seamen were killed, NURSE and six others were wounded.
    The schooner escaped.
