ELECTRA The French L'ESPIEGLE taken by Capt. Clotworthy UPTON in SYBLLE on 16 August 1808.
Sold in 1816.

  • The French warships ESPIEGLE, DILIGENTE and SYLPH were sailing across the Bay of Biscay en route to Martinique when they were chased by COMET on 11 August 1808.
    SYLPHE was soon captured but the other two escaped.
    Five days later ESPIEGLE was taken by Capt. UPTON.

  • 1813 William GREGORY, Newfoundland station.
    Off St. Peter's on the 7 July he captured, after a chase of six hours, the American privateer schooner GROWLER armed with one long 24-pounder and four 18s and having a crew of 60 men.
