    On 6 February 1782 she sailed for India with Commodore Sir Richard BICKERTON's squadron and took part in the battle between Sir Edward HUGHES and Ad. de Suffrein of Cuddalore on 30 June 1783. She lost 2 men killed and 11 wounded.

  • On 30 December 1796 CUMBERLAND came to anchor in Portsmouth with the loss of her main-topmast she had been 73 days from Gibraltar and parted from Ad. MANN's squadron of six sail off Start Point on 23 November during a gale. She had 250 sick on board and went into quarantine at the Mother Bank.
    Ad. MANN's squadron was badly affected by dysentery.

  • 1800 Capt T. GRAVES, with the Channel fleet off Brest.
    CUMBERLAND came in to Plymouth on 3 August for a refit.
  • On 27 October 1800 a court martial was held on board GLADIATOR in Portsmouth harbour to try John Brown, a private marine belonging to CUMBERLAND, for writing a disrespectful letter reflecting on the conduct of Capt. GRAVES and Captain Gardiner of the marines.
    Two more marines, William Dean and Thomas Taylor, were charged with aiding him in his libellous and seditious conduct.
    Brown was sentenced to 100 lashes and the other two to 50 lashes each.

    CUMBERLAND was to have returned home with the rest of Sir Robert CALDER's squadron, POMPEE, JUSTE, COURAGEUX, SPENCER and THUNDERER, but remained in the West Indies instead of THUNDERER which was so leaky she had to return for repairs.
  • 1803 Capt. H. W. BAYNTUN, Jamaica.
    On 13 October 1803 CUMBERLAND and SERRIL captured two French ships, the CATHARINE & ADELAIDE and the SOPHIE, laden with dry goods and ironmongery, and the schooner LALITTE with the same cargo.
  • CUMBERLAND took part in the blockade of Cape Nicola Mole in San Domingo.
    The French feluccas REPUBLIC and TEMERAIRE, the French schooner BELLE LOUISE, the American sloop ACTIVE and the American schooner SALLY WARNER were captured on 6 December 1803 by CUMBERLAND and PIQUE.
    They had on board members of the garrison of the Mole which had evacuated during the night.
