CONQUESTADOR (74) Built in 1810, Northam.
Broken up in 1897.

  • 1811 Capt. Lord William STUART, Channel fleet.
  • On 1 December the ARROW schooner and the boats of COLOSSUS and CONQUESTADOR attacked an enemy convoy south of the Ile d'Aix and stranded three chasse-maree on the beach, burnt three more and brought one off.
  • On noon on 27 December 1811 CONQUESTADOR sighted a French convoy sailing inshore between La Rochelle and the Ile d'Aix.
Capt. STUART signalled Capt. ALEXANDER of COLOSSUS, "May I attack the enemy?" and received the answer, "As you please." He closed in as far as the depth of water would allow and sent in the barge under Lieut. Edwin CAULFIELD with master's mate Daniel BAIRD in the pinnace and Lieut. Edmund STACKPOLE in the launch.
The gunbrig PIERCER closed on the orders of Capt. ALEXANDER who also sent three of COLOSSUS's boats after the convoy.
At about half past two, when he saw that the boats had gone very deep into the bay between the Points of Chantillon and Du Rocher, Capt. STUART hoisted recall signals and fired guns.
At about the same time the wind shifted and three French gunboats, a gunboat and several armed pinnaces weighed from the Ile d'Aix and placed the boats between them and the shore.
He signalled PIERCER to protect the boats, but she did not do so, and sent a boat with 18 seamen and marines to help.
  • The French gunboat ran on board the barge of COLOSSUS and the crew were forced to surrender.
The other boats, apart from one belonging to COLOSSUS were driven ashore and their crews taken prisoner.
All 113 remained in captivity until 1814.
  • 1814 Ditto re-fitting at Plymouth.
  • 1815 Out of commission at Chatham, later Sheerness.
  • 1860 Powder Hulk.
