AUGUSTUS (3) Gunvessel 1798 to 1801.
  • 1799 E. K. FOLEY, Plymouth.
  • 1800 P. DUXON, Plymouth.
  • 1801 Lieut. James SCOTT, Plymouth.
On the morning of the 7 July 1801 AUGUSTUS, lying in the Catwater, got under weigh for Cawsand Bay and, in turning into the Sound, missed stays and went aground under the lower fort of the citadel east of two gun batteries. Although Capt. HAWKER and the boats of FISGARD did all they could and attempted to buoy her with casks, she broke up during the night. The crew and part of the stores were saved.
