ARDENT (64) Built in 1782, Bursledon.
Blew up in 1794.

  • 1784 Capt. Hart HARMOOD, Guard-Ship at Portsmouth.
  • 1793 Capt. Robert Manners SUTTON, with Vice Ad. Lord HOOD at Toulon in August. She was part of a force detached under Robert LINZEE to take part in the attack on Corsica in September.
While she was stationed off Villa Franca to watch two French frigates she caught fire and blew up in April 1794. As no one was saved the details were never known. BERWICK picked up part of the booms of ARDENT whilst she was cruising in the Gulf of Genoa in the summer and it was evident, from their appearance, that she had blown up.
